Personal Protection Plan for Shelter in Place

We all know Florida has a Hurricane Season! Take a look at the listed items below and start organizing what you might need when we are visited by one of these unwelcome guests. Bruce Winter, our Director of Construction has compiled an extensive list of what you should have on hand.

We suggest you mark a large plastic container as your Hurricane Supplies and gather together items that you already have in your home. Make a list of these items so you know what you already have when you need to purchase the remaining items.

7 DAY ESSENTIAL EMERGENCY SUPPLIES KIT

  • 7 Gallons of water per person (56 8 oz. bottles)
  • Non-perishable food, manual can opener 
  • Do not forget your pets: food, leashes, proof of shots if going to a shelter, water, toys, cage, treats, bedding
  • PPE- face masks, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, and First Aid Kit
  • Flashlights or lanterns with extra batteries, chargers for phones and tablets
  • Radio with extra batteries
  • Medications (prescriptions and over the counter)
  • Cash and important documents in a waterproof container
  • A few days’ change of clothes and shoes
  • Sanitation and hygiene products
  • Bedding, blanket/sleeping bag and pillows, kid’s favorite toy
  • Extra set of car, home, and safe deposit keys
  • Emergency phone numbers and cell phone charger
  • Pens, pencils, paper
  • Camping stove or grill, fuel, pots, pans, foil, paper cups, plates, and plastic utensils, can opener
  • Portable toilet, toilet paper and plastic bags
  • Ready to eat foods in cans or pouches: meat, fruit, and veggies per person for 7 days (eat refrigerated foods first then canned)
  • canned juices, powdered milk, dry cereals, formula for babies
  • high energy foods, such as peanut butter, crackers, granola bars, trail mix, nuts, dried fruits
  • heat and serve soups, pastas, stews, chili
  • comfort/stress foods in small amounts: cookies, hard candies, sweetened cereals, instant coffee, tea bags, energy bars
  • resealing containers, plastic bags or wrap, bleach, hand sanitizer, moist wipes, plastic eating utensils, paper plates and cups
  • Pet supplies: 2 weeks supply of food, water and food bowls, toys, medications, collar, id tags, leash and muzzle, manual can opener, waste bags, cat litter and tray, care instructions, pet carrier with fan, batteries for fan, put ID on carrier and pet collar.  Know pet friendly shelter(s).
