Manatee County Habitat for Humanity is proud to welcome Wendy Gorevan, Accounting Analyst at Credit Union 1, to our Board of Directors. Wendy brings not only financial expertise but also a deep personal passion for addressing the affordable housing crisis in our community.

Wendy was first introduced to Manatee Habitat during the Leadership Manatee program, where she attended our Human Services Day presentation. It was there she heard from our Development Director Emily Lane, about the growing need for affordable housing in Manatee County and the transformative impact of our homeownership program. The stories of families whose lives have been changed resonated with her immediately.

“The availability versus the need for affordable housing really stood out to me,” Wendy shared. “I’ve been concerned about the shortage of affordable housing in Manatee County since our housing boom kicked off in 2020.”

In her previous role at Credit Union 1, Wendy was involved in hiring entry-level employees, and she witnessed firsthand how quickly housing costs were rising—far outpacing entry-level wages. This concern became personal as she considered the future of her own children, as well as the children of coworkers and young professionals trying to make it on their own.

So, when fellow board member Karima Habity reached out to invite Wendy to consider joining the board, she didn’t hesitate. “I’ve learned not to question opportunities that are placed in my lap,” she said. “I was thrilled.”

Wendy now joins our leadership team with a strong sense of purpose and optimism. “I look forward to supporting Bernie and the entire team as they work hard to accomplish their goals. Most of all, I look forward to seeing many families move into their forever homes.”

Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Wendy! We’re excited to have her voice, passion, and insight helping to guide our mission forward.
