Your generosity is making a profound impact, helping us move closer to our goal of $175,000 to fully fund a home for a deserving Black family like Bernatta’s.
The Power of Your Contribution
Through the ABH Initiative, we aim to close the racial wealth gap by empowering Black families with the stability and security of homeownership. This Giving Tuesday, your donations directly supported this mission. Families like Bernatta’s face significant systemic barriers in their journey to owning a home, and your support helps break down these obstacles.
Bernatta, a dedicated school teacher in Manatee County and single mother of two, is one of the families benefiting from your generosity. Her daughters, Nakiya (17) and Timeia (14), have been her driving force as she pursued a career in early childhood education despite financial hardships. Bernatta’s roots with Habitat for Humanity run deep, having been raised in a Habitat home purchased by her parents in 1986. The stability of that home inspired her to strive for the same for her daughters.
As housing prices soared, Bernatta struggled to afford a home of her own. She nearly gave up on her dream of homeownership, but her daughters’ encouragement reignited her determination. With renewed hope, Bernatta applied for a Manatee Habitat home and was accepted into the program.
Our Goal
We are still working towards our goal of raising $175,000 to fully fund a home for a Black family in need. Your support is crucial in helping us achieve this milestone and make a lasting impact. Together, we can create more stories of success and perseverance, like Bernatta’s.
