Interfaith Home Dedication
Our home dedications are usually hands on; meaning everyone places their hands on the new home while prayers and blessings are said. But, as you can imagine, with COVID social distancing regulations to follow, that just wasn’t possible! Leave it to Sheryl Boddy, our Director of Family Services, to come up with an ingenious way for everyone to be attached to the home and still maintain safe distancing!
While our faith partners were giving well wishes to our new homeowners, everyone was given a ribbon to hold that was attached to the front door of the home. Not only were all the attendees attached to the home, it was quite beautiful to see the colorful ribbons streaming outward from the front door!
Eleven months to the day from the groundbreaking ceremony and two years after Markish Harris came into the Manatee Habitat New Homeowner Program, Rev. Dr. Bobbie Blackburn from Trinity Lutheran Church of Bradenton gave Markisha a bible and said the dedication prayers!
Thanks you all the faith groups who participated in raising the funds to build this home and participating in building the home! Markisha and her children are now able to purchase this beautiful home with a 0% interest loan now that they have completed their 300 hours of sweat equity! Oh and FYI, Markisha completed her 300 hours in two years while also working full time and raising a baby, and two teenagers!
Congratulation to the Harris Family!
