Earth Day is this Saturday, April 22, and we encourage all of you to join in with the over 1 billion people worldwide who observe this day of action to change human behavior and fight for a clean environment! At Manatee Habitat, we bring people together around the cause of affordable homeownership, but we also use many of our programs and initiatives to give back to the planet. We hope that this Earth Day will inspire you to join us in our yearlong efforts to Reuse, Recycle, and ReStore our planet! Here are 4 ways that you can help us make a difference:

1. Shop and Donate at our Restore

Did you know that last year our ReStore diverged 45 tons of unwanted goods from landfills? When you donate to our ReStore you’re giving your unwanted appliances, furniture, and building materials a second lease on life! We accept a large variety of new and gently used items that we resell at a fraction of the retail price. Best part? The revenue made from your shopping will go directly toward helping build more green homes for local families in need! You’ll feel

great knowing that you’re helping the community and the environment!

2. Support sustainable building in our community

Manatee Habitat builds green! Our construction team and volunteers use a wide range of building techniques to keep our homes as sustainable and energy efficient as possible. Plus, through our critical home repair program, we preserve old homes so that families can continue to live in them for years to come. Join us at the job site on Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday mornings to help us build more sustainable homes.

3. Recycle your old vehicle

Every year, the steel industry recycles an impressive 14 million tons of steel from end-of-life vehicles. Through our “Cars for Homes” program, you can donate your old vehicles for resale or to be dismantled and recycled. We accept cars, RVs, boats, trailers, snow mobiles, and more! Plus, the vehicle doesn’t have to be in running order to be donated!

4. Make a kind donation today

Every donation goes toward our efforts to build more sustainable homes for more families in need. When you donate to Manatee Habitat through Flanzer Philanthropic Trust, they will double your gift of up to $500 a month. So if you can’t join us at the job site, support green building in Manatee County by making a gift!
