Due to the pandemic, Lilyann made the difficult decision to move back to her parents’ house at the beginning of 2023, along with her 11-year-old “gifted” son and their dog. In their current living situation, all three of them share a room, adding to the already crowded household of five people in a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home (with one toilet plumbing broken and unusable). Unfortunately, they are facing substandard and overcrowded living conditions.
In 2023, a friend referred Lilyann to Manatee Habitat. She and her son have been constantly sick due to mold and the lack of clean air in their current home. Despite her son’s recent enthusiasm for joining the band, he has missed several days of school because of their living environment. With the current skyrocketing home prices, Lilyann cannot afford to live in a decent area to raise her son without the help of Habitat for Humanity. Her son is her motivation to become a homeowner so that he can grow up in a home with clean air and a safe neighborhood they can call their own.
