Faith Build

We are again partnering with the Manatee County Faith Community to build a new green home designated for a deserving family to purchase.

Over the years we’ve built homes with groups of Presbyterian, Lutheran and Methodist churches.  Most recently we brought together many denominations from Manatee County for our first Interfaith Build home which was purchased by Markisha Harris; single mom to three children. We believe this was a great way to showcase the role of our faith communities and we hope you will prayerfully consider joining us in this build in a way that is meaningful to your congregation.  Financial contributions will enable us to purchase the necessary materials and volunteer support of all kinds will help us complete the task of providing an opportunity for affordable home ownership.

Double your gift of $5 to $500 by visiting the Flanzer Philanthropic Foundation and choosing Manatee Habitat. The Foundation will match one gift per month.

January 5th 2022 UPDATE

Manatee Habitat for Humanity had five church partners in this Thrivent Faith Build. Although we have been unable to commence building the home, we have recruits from all five churches to volunteer once construction begins. All participating churches will be invited to the groundbreaking in early 2022. Churches held a variety of events. Three had members of their congregations sign ICF blocks (a total of 8) that will be included in the walls of the home. Three churches raised cash contributions, with another collecting items for use by the new homeowners and/or donation to the ReStore. Churches prayed for the family and for the success of the build. One church held an ICF block signing luncheon. Another chose the family as the recipients for their annual “Manger of Hope” project, collecting gifts for the family. One church asked its youth to sign ICF blocks with their favorite Bible verses, while still another raised funds with a chili/chicken noodle soup lunch event.

We stopped in to chat with Rev. Dr. Bobbie Blackburn from Trinity Lutheran Church of Bradenton. Rev. Bobbie and Manatee Habitat have been partnering on faith builds for 25 years! That’s almost since Manatee Habitat was founded.

Our future homeowner, Yvette says that her son Jose, is home for Christmas! That’s great news. More GREAT news is the New Hope Baptist Church made Yvette and Jose recipients of their Manger of Joy. What a truly amazing Christmas this will be for Yvette and Jose!

Thank you New Hope Baptist Church for sharing your blessings with this family!

Update on the house:

WE will be breaking ground on Yvette and Jose’s home sometime after the New Year. Waiting for the lot descriptions to go through the city’s processes. But the good news is we since we have been able to have time for the fundraising portion of a home build we are well over half way to reaching our goal!

Manger of Joy from New Hope Baptist Church

Yvette, her nephew and I attended Sunday Service at Peace Presbyterian in Lakewood Ranch. We were welcomed with open arms and made to feel right at home. Many members of the congregation had signed building blocks that will be used in building Yvette and Jose’s home.

You can tell by the smile, that Yvette was touched by the thoughts and prayers that will be built into her home!
