Manatee Habitat joins State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota to transform the federal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. into a day on, not a day off.
To reduce the number of injuries and fatalities from home fires, Manatee County Habitat for Humanity will be installing free smoke detectors in eligible homes throughout the Samoset area on January 19th, 2019. In honor of the MLK Day of Service and continuing Dr. King's legacy, Habitat will install smoke alarms for free in homes that need them and educate people about home fire safety. We know that a working smoke alarm cuts the risk of dying in a home fire in half. Manatee Habitat is happy to provide you with FREE smoke alarms in honor of MLK Day of Service, there are no questions asked and no fees – just a free smoke alarm!
Habitat for Humanity and Southern Manatee Fire Department volunteers will be making visits to residents who sign up for free smoke alarms. Volunteer teams will work with families to install alarms, provide fire safety tips, and create fire escape plans to ensure families are equipped with the proper resources moving forward. After signing up, you will receive an email confirmation from a team member providing you a time window that the team will be out to visit you.
