Viet Nam Veteran Receives Keys to Rehabilitated Manufactured Home

Today, Tom Walsh shed a few tears as he thanked the volunteers from Habitat for Heroes, a joint effort of Our Next Mission and Manatee Habitat, for the work they had done rehabilitating an aged mobile home, making it safe and secure for him to live in forever.    A Viet Nam era Veteran, Tom suffers from a number of health issues and had been searching for a solution to his living situation for over a year.  With the help of his daughter, they were eventually put in contact with Manatee Habitat and Our Next Mission.

From there it took over 2000 volunteer hours to complete the manufactured homes’ rehabilitation process. Whenever possible donated materials from Manatee Habitat were used and the work was done by a dedicated team of volunteers from Our Next Mission, who are all Veterans themselves.

Tom’s daughter summed it up best when she said “Now when I leave him, I know he is safe!”

Manatee Habitat and Our Next Mission have been partnering through Habitat for Heroes to improve the living situations of Veterans for three years.  Together they are helping homeless Veterans or Veterans living in substandard housing into safe, secure, and affordable homes.
