CONSTRUCTION VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR EXTRAORDINAIRE!

As one of six children, I am a typical middle child: a people pleaser, somewhat rebellious, a peacemaker and I have a large social circle. I was born in New York and my family moved to Massachusetts, then to New Jersey. I attended Montclair State College where I met my husband. After he passed in 1996, I moved to Florida where I continue to reside.

Throughout my work life I have enjoyed being with people. As a server and later a manager at Red Lobster for 23 years, I was always around people. I interacted with such a diverse group that it kept me in tune with the needs and wants of many types of individuals. Each day was a little different. Later I joined the team at The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art which is a part of Florida State University. At first, I managed the admissions area and met people from all over the world. I also had the chance to learn about a wide variety of arts including objects, performance, and historical buildings. Later I then managed two cadres of volunteers who directly impacted the visitor experience. They were the Ambassadors and the Tram drivers. I lost my job during some University budget cuts after 14 years. I was lucky enough to land here with the Construction team at Manatee County Habitat for Humanity where I work with our volunteers.

I feel as if I have had some of the best careers as I have never been stuck behind a boring desk for hours on end and always got to be around people. I work with caring and committed folks who inspire me every day with their dedication and vast knowledge of building and their belief that everyone deserves a safe place to call home.
