Our partner, Our Next Mission, and Manatee Habitat, started another major rehab of a manufactured home the middle of January.  The home is located in Pescara Lake  Mobile Home Park, Bradenton.

We started by having the Florida Solar Energy Center, which is a part of The University of Central Florida but located in Cocoa, FL, come and pre-test the energy efficiency of the home. We have worked with FSEC in the past, specifically in our Hope Landing Community.

After the testing was complete, the Our Next Mission Volunteer Crew  set about completely stripping out all walls, re-decking the entire floor, replacing the plumbing with all new and replacing some of the electrical. That work is almost done.  Future work will be to build all new exterior wall layout, install new windows, new exterior doors, a complete new bathroom, new kitchen, and many new appliances including A/C units.  This work will take 2 to 3 months.

Upon completion of the rehab FSEC will return and post-test the home to see the improvements that can be made to earlier built manufactured homes.  We will do a write-up on the study and hopefully get it published for the Department of Energy to assist others in promoting Energy efficiency.  When done, another Veteran will have a safe, affordable, and comfortable place to live.
